After a 17-year-old girl from Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania was mercilessly bullied by internet commenters for her weight, an even bigger community of people online rushed to her defense.

Earlier this month, high-schooler Tayja Jones got all dolled up to go to her junior prom, danced the night away, and then shared a picture of herself in her sparkly prom dress on social media.

But she woke up the next day to find that strangers across the internet were making fun of her, calling her names for being overweight and attacking her dress choice.

Tayja has been feeling great about herself the night before. She’d picked out a girly dress with black tulle skirt and multicolor sequins on top, styled her hair, and did her make-up.

‘I felt good and I was happy,’ she told Fox 29.

She took pictures with friends, headed to the prom, and danced the night away, updating her Instagram before bed with a photo of herself in her dress.

The next morning, though, she found out from friends that her imagehad gone viral online — and people were being incredibly cruel.

‘There were just like so many rude remarks and negative comments about how I looked. People I didn’t know were just like, “That dress is not for her, she looks like a fat something,”’ Tayja said.

‘It was just really hurtful because I was so confident the day before and it just changed my view of myself,’ she added.
