Nigerian Wedding Presents “Danshiki” The New Male-Inspired Aso-ebi Trend For Ladies

There’s a new trend in town guys! Trust me, to seek it out. I came across this trend December last year, and didn’t think it would be a HIT until last month when some more ladies are going all male inspired! How cute right? Dashiki is derived from the Yoruba word “danshiki”, meaning shirt. It is usually worn with a hat called “Kurfi” or “Koufia”, which are Yoruba words for hat, and a pair of pants called “Sokoto”, which is the Yoruba word for trousers.

Below are some of the Danshiki styles I have been able to curate. Do you like this trend? Would you make one?

They can be made using any fabric, in a variety of colours and textures too. The dashiki covers the top half of the body, just like a shirt dress. It has formal and informal versions and varies from simple draped clothing to fully tailored suits. A common form is a loose-fitting pullover garment, with an ornate V-shaped collar, and tailored and embroidered neck and sleeve lines.
