How cute are these two? Chika & Anthony met for the first time through a mutual friend in Dallas, Texas USA. And since that moment, they’ve been inseperable! The couple did their traditional Igba Nkwu Nwayi ceremony on the 27th December, 2014 in Chika’s family compound in Umuahia. The couple wanted to incorporate their history and culture in their pre-wedding shoot, so they decided to do their shoot at the Umuahia National War Museum, which was rather unique! Check out photos below and read their love story…..photo courtesy of House of Mo.
How we met:
Anthony hails from Bayelsa State while I am from Umuahia Abia State. We met in 2013 in Dallas, Texas through a mutual friend. After a couple of concerts and several dinner we became inseparable. Anthony knew that family was very important to me and he made sure that he incorporated my family as well as his in the proposal. The day he asked for my hand in marriage both fathers were present and of course I said YES!!!
The photographer : House of Mo is a Lagos based company and they were great. When we first met with them they insisted that we take pre-wedding pictures that show the history of Nigeria and the story of our grandparents. Capturing the pictures was an amazing experience for me since most of my childhood was in the states. We went to the Umuahia National War Museum, local farms, my father’s compound and the oil mill to capture the Engagement Pictures. The Traditional Wedding was held in my father’s compound in Umuahia Nigeria and we had a local artist and his band at our ceremony with 300 plus guest.
We wanted to have the Igba Nkwu in Nigeria to allow all of our extend family to be present in the ceremony. Like the African saying goes” It takes a village to raise a child” we wanted all the Bayelsa and Abia family members to partake in this union. The church wedding will be held here in Dallas this August.
