I moved to Belfast to start a new job and my friend who used to live in the city introduced me to Aunty Lara. I started attending her church and that is where I met Jide. It was on my birthday after a leadership seminar at church that Pastor Chris called Jide and introduced him to me. I was like “ok, nice to meet you” and that was it for me at the time. We started talking when we saw each other in church and I quickly realised that this guy did not understand Nigerian sarcasm, so I used that fact to pull his legs just to get a reaction from him. We got closer and couple of months later he told me he liked me. I was not interested as I’d just come out of a relationship. However, Jide was consistent in his show of care and friendship. He continually did things that were out of the box and I was impressed. One of these was his interest to learn about Nigerian slangs and use them in conversations with me…lol.
I prayed about him and received my confirmation from God and also my parents. I thank God for how far He has taken us in our relationship and I look forward to forever.
How I Met My D by Jide.
It was the 22nd of September I first set eyes on Dara in church (though my lady claimed and still claims that we never met until 2 weeks later….. anyways I’m sure of that which I know).
I saw this lovely lady helping out with the children after church service, went over said hello to her and collected one of the children she was taking care of. The following weekend, one of our dear aunties in church told me that her sister (Dara) was around. She is called Lara, so I was like hmmm….. Lara ….. Dara very nice names for siblings (not knowing that they were not related). Fast forward another week, the day Dara claims to have first set eyes on me, her birthday. It was after a conference at church that the pastor introduced me to her. She smiled and wow I was captivated by her diastema – that gap in her teeth was so nice and she had a great smile. So days passed, weeks passed with me trying to find a way to start talking to her and get her number. One thing led to another and I managed to get her number from her as I told her I could give her a lift to church since she lived far away.
After a couple of months, I made my feelings known to her which was a big deal to me (but as any girl would do she just acted as if it was nothing, and I’m like this is a great deal and it took a lot of courage for me to finally tell her I liked her). I was like maybe my words are not doing it enough for her then I wrote her a letter explaining my feelings and reasons why. But thank God for Aunty Lara that was putting in good words on the side and other common friends that we have.
9 months later in June, Dara finally accepted to give this guy called Jide a chance of loving her and her to love him. I’ve always told her that I prayed to God and he answered my prayers by bringing her to where I was. If I was to go and seek for my help mate I would have failed and chosen wrongly. It is now 3 years and it’s been fun, never a day passes by that we don’t talk, she is my friend, my Asinobi number 1, my delight, my joy. I love her with the love of God, and that I know is what will keep us as we embark on this journey of life.
I’ve told her many times before and I will continue to say it “I pray that I never take her for granted”.
